POS & Device Integration Engineer
Merchant Devices·Mid-level
Connect restaurant software with the printers, tablets and local networks used during real service.
The job
You will work primarily from our Derby device lab, reproducing the conditions that software meets inside a restaurant. The job combines software integration, practical device testing and clear support documentation. You will focus on receipt printing and order-device workflows, while evaluating future POS connections where they solve a clear partner need. Success means staff understand whether an action succeeded and support colleagues can diagnose problems without repeated guesswork.
What you would be doing
- Develop and test integrations with receipt printers, tablets and supported merchant devices.
- Handle connection failures, retries and device status without creating duplicate operational actions.
- Build repeatable lab scenarios for different networks, device models and firmware versions.
- Create setup guides and diagnostic tools for onboarding and support teams.
- Investigate partner-site issues and distinguish software, network and hardware causes.
- Maintain a compatibility matrix and document limitations before a device is supported.
- Collaborate with backend engineers on device registration, permissions and command tracking.
What we are looking for
- Practical experience integrating software with hardware or local-network devices.
- Ability to develop and debug integrations using TypeScript, JavaScript or a comparable language.
- Understanding of HTTP, local networking and device troubleshooting.
- A systematic approach to reproducing intermittent problems and recording evidence.
- Ability to explain technical setup steps clearly to restaurant staff and support colleagues.
Useful, but not essential
- Experience with receipt printing, Epson ePOS or hospitality POS systems.
- Familiarity with Android merchant devices or kiosk environments.
- Experience writing deployment checklists and field-support documentation.
Tools you might use
- Epson ePOS-Print
- TypeScript
- HTTP/XML
- Network diagnostic tools
- Android tablets
- Device test rigs
