Graduate Software Engineer
Core Product·Graduate / Junior
Start your engineering career by building useful restaurant software with regular feedback and support from experienced teammates.
The job
You will contribute to real product improvements while developing sound engineering habits. Early work will be deliberately scoped: a dashboard enhancement, a validation rule, a test or a small API change. You will pair with colleagues, ask questions and gradually take more ownership as your confidence grows. A computer science degree is one possible route, but equivalent practical learning through apprenticeships, bootcamps or independent projects is welcome.
What you would be doing
- Implement small, well-defined interface and backend changes with guidance.
- Write and update tests that explain the intended behaviour of your changes.
- Use code review to learn, discuss alternatives and improve maintainability.
- Investigate reproducible bugs and document what you find.
- Participate in planning and explain progress, questions and blockers early.
- Learn safe handling of customer data, permissions and production changes.
- Build familiarity with the restaurant problems behind the features you work on.
What we are looking for
- Foundational programming skills shown through study, practical projects or equivalent experience.
- Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript or another relevant language.
- Willingness to learn relational databases, APIs and collaborative development.
- Ability to explain your thinking and ask for help when something is unclear.
- Interest in building software that solves practical problems for users.
Useful, but not essential
- A small project using React, TypeScript or SQL.
- Familiarity with Git and automated tests.
- Experience in hospitality or another customer-facing environment.
Tools you might use
- TypeScript
- React
- Next.js
- PostgreSQL
- Git
- Automated testing

- Days 61–90Take ownership of a small task from clarification to release with agreed support checkpoints.
The practical bits
- 3 days per week in the Birmingham office and 2 days working remotely within the UK.

- Occasional planned team or customer visits; approved expenses are reimbursed.
What we offer
- 30 days of annual leave plus public holidays
