API & Integrations Engineer

Partner IntegrationsMid-level

EngineeringDerby, UKHybridFull time
Apply for this role

Build reliable connections between Ordernised and the delivery, messaging and partner systems restaurants depend on.

The job

You will help external systems exchange information with Ordernised in a controlled, observable way. Integrations introduce different assumptions about identity, timing, errors and availability, so you will translate those differences into dependable workflows. You will work with partner documentation, sandbox environments and internal product teams to define what an integration should do, how failures are recovered and what support teams need to see when something goes wrong.

What you would be doing

  • Develop API clients, webhook endpoints and adapters for external services.
  • Define data mappings and validation rules between partner and Ordernised models.
  • Implement bounded retries, idempotency, rate-limit handling and failure queues where appropriate.
  • Manage integration credentials through approved secure configuration mechanisms.
  • Create contract tests and sandbox scenarios for common provider failure modes.
  • Publish clear integration documentation and support-facing troubleshooting guidance.
  • Monitor provider changes and coordinate updates without unnecessary disruption to restaurants.

What we are looking for

  • Experience developing production APIs or third-party integrations.
  • Understanding of HTTP, authentication patterns, webhooks and asynchronous processing.
  • Ability to reason about retries, duplicate messages and partial failure.
  • Practical database and automated-testing skills.
  • Confidence reading external documentation and communicating integration constraints.

Useful, but not essential

  • Experience with delivery, dispatch, messaging or commerce APIs.
  • Familiarity with iCabbi, Twilio or comparable platforms.
  • Experience supporting API consumers or working directly with technical partners.

Tools you might use

  • TypeScript
  • Node.js
  • REST APIs
  • Webhooks
  • PostgreSQL
  • Contract testing

Your first 90 days

  • Days 1–30Map a representative integration and reproduce its main success and failure paths in a sandbox.
  • Days 31–60Deliver an adapter or reliability improvement with tests and useful operational logging.
  • Days 61–90Release the improvement and provide a concise runbook for support and future maintainers.

The practical bits

  • 3 days per week in the Derby office and 2 days working remotely within the UK.
  • 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday. Core collaboration hours are agreed with the team.
  • Occasional planned team or customer visits; approved expenses are reimbursed.

What we offer

  • 30 days of annual leave plus public holidays
  • A company pension contribution
  • A £1,000 annual learning budget for courses, conferences or professional development
  • A company laptop and role-appropriate equipment; engineering roles include a development setup
  • Flexible start and finish times, agreed with your team around customer and collaboration needs
  • Wellbeing support and regular development conversations with your manager
  • Reimbursement of approved business travel and customer-visit expenses
